Holly's life in foster homes.
In her first entries of her journal Holly talks about her life with foster parents. Why is she so afraid of social workers and the foster care system? She thinks that if she complains they’ll think she is a liar. Why does she think this? How is it that abusive people come to care for children?

Holly's experiences with the social workers she's met in the past have been pretty much all bad; she blames them for a lot of her problems - but later on, she admits that some of her problems were brought on by her own behavior. I think this shows that she's begun to heal her emotional wounds, and is getting stronger inside herself.
ReplyDeleteAbusive adults seek out vulnerable children; kids in fostercare are already hurt and in trouble - they are the perfect 'victims' for abusers; it can be very hard to spot them and prevent this, even for trained social workers (who are often tired and overworked).
